Featuring Bualai Taste of Thai Restaurant and Two Dishes Cookshop in Peterborough

Bualai Taste of Thai Restaurant

As the doors close on Saporito Italian Restaurant, one of Peterborough’s favourite dining spots, we wish Jim Glasser all the best in his future endeavours. But you know what they say — when one door closes, another one opens.

And lucky for us, the doors are now open at Bualai Taste of Thai Restaurant. Owner and Executive Chef Sammy Minc has brought a little piece of Thailand to Peterborough. Direct from Chiang Mai, Thailand (where she worked for 27 years), Chef See and her husband Mr. Non bring you authentic flavours of Thai food, including a variety of mild to spicy curries, subtle saltiness of peanut satays, the unforgettable hint of licorice from Thai basil, citrus of mango, pineapple and lemongrass, and the sweet and tangy undertones of tamarind.

Each dish has its own distinct and unique signature. Chef See and Mr. Non pride themselves in offering not just the usual Thai dishes we love so much (Pad Thai, chicken satay, and spring rolls), but they offer authentic dishes for the more adventurous diner — try fragrant Panang curry, cool mango salad, or coconut soup infused with lime, lemongrass, galangal (Thai ginger), and coriander.

The food is fresh, healthy, and beautifully presented. The attention to detail in the design of Bualai Taste of Thai Restaurant feeds the diner’s imagination. All of the art, clothing, and dishes used in furnishing this establishment add to the authenticity of the dining experience. For those of you who don’t have the opportunity to travel to Thailand, it’s the next best thing.

Bualai Taste of Thai Restaurant is located at 195 Simcoe Street (Charlotte Mews) in Peterborough and is open for lunch and dinner daily, except Sundays. For reservations, call 705-743-9799.

Sister team Susan and Paula Houde have teamed up once again to open Two Dishes Cookshop — a gem of neighbourhood restaurant focusing on local, seasonally inspired food.

Open daily, Two Dishes Cookshop serves up heart-warming dishes made fresh and inspired by love. Focusing on locally grown and purchased items as much as possible, the menu changes every three to four months in harmony with the seasons.

Almost everything served at Two Dishes Cookshop is created from scratch, including the bread, ketchup, buttermilk dressing for their famous kale and sweet potato salad, pies, pickles, pate, peanut butter, and mouthwatering butter tarts.

And if that isn’t enough, try a glass of their home made soda pop — how about raspberry mint or strawberry lime rosewater to quench your thirst?

The restaurant is perfectly located to support the business lunch crowd and easily accessible for take-away dinners, including succulent homemade meat pies, soups, salads, breads and of course, sinful desserts. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff treats you like family, and the portions will please any appetite.

Two Dishes Cookshop invites you daily for breakfast and lunch, for dinner on Friday or Saturday, or to savour Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A licensed venue with ample bike parking, Two Dishes Cookshop is located at 261 Charlotte Street in Peterborough, at the corner of Bethune. Reserve your spot for lunch or dinner by calling 705-775-2650.
