Wal-Mart development going ahead in Peterborough Lots of big news this week. The Wal-Mart development in the north end of Peterborough gets the go-ahead, which will cause a bit of a domino effect on Chemong Road and at Portage Place.
New shopping centre development in Lindsay
There is still space available in both developments, so contact Vince Saccucci at North Harbour Developments toll free at 1-866-848-8821 for more information.
Kawartha winery It's being called "The Only Winery Between Peterborough and The North Pole," and John Rufa and Trish Dougherty just might be right! Kawartha Country Wines began operation a few weeks ago at 2275 County Road 36, which is the highway between Buckhorn and Bobcaygeon. It's actually about 4 km north of Buckhorn, beside the little White Church. They specialize in fruit wines, including Cherry, Apricot, Golden Plum and locally grown Rhubarb, Strawberry and Raspberry. Plans are to add a grape wine this fall. Kawartha Country Wines is open seven days a week from 10 am - 6 pm. Contact them at 705-657-9916 or www.kawarthacountrywines.ca.

Stuart "Stu" Harrison writes a weekly column about business news (published on KawarthaNow.com on Fridays and in the Peterborough Examiner on Mondays) and hosts a business segment every Monday evening on CHEX-TV's Newswatch.
Meanwhile, over in the City of Kawartha Lakes at and beside Lindsay Square Mall, construction has begun on a major development. The Kawartha Lakes Centre will be built just east of the Canadian Tire Store on Kent Street. This will allow for an integrated parking lot in front of Lindsay Square, Canadian Tire and The Kawartha Lakes Centre. Leases have been signed for a Food Basics Grocery Store, Staples Business Depot, Marks Work Wearhouse, and an A&W Restaurant. Once the Food Basics opens, A&P in Lindsay Square will close, which creates a new opportunity there as well.
Just what you've been waiting for ... a hovercraft! Jeff Covert has obtained the exclusive Canadian rights to Hov Pod, an English-made hovercraft that has solved a lot of the problems normally associated with hovercraft, like noise, size and steering. For $37,900, you could have a vehicle that could run right down George Street during a parade, pick up a couple of tourists at the marina and head out onto Little Lake. Other uses might include fundraisers for charity, rescue services, advertising for businesses, sport, or just for recreation!
