New owner of travel agency
The smiling face of Mary LaRocque is once again connected to the travel industry, as Mary has purchased the Thomas Cook agency from Linda Goodyear. The agency is located in the Heritage Plaza at 550 Lansdowne Street, beside the Home Depot.
Experience is everything in the travel business and, although she doesn't look it, Mary has 20 years of experience at all levels. The staff also remains the same with Sarah Orgill, Lynda Sorrie and Kirsi Peters all combining to provide over 75 years of experience. The smiling face of Dave Haacke is once again connected to the housing industry, as Dave recently launched Dave Haacke Residential Home Inspections.
Dave ran Plumbing Plus on George Street for 16 years and is applying more than 20 years of experience with building, designing and renovating to provide a thorough home inspection and detailed report, whether you are selling or buying a home. New location for car rental agency
Congratulations to Jason Duke and Discount Car and Truck Rentals on their new location at the corner of Lansdowne Street and Spillsbury. The move from Erskine Avenue resulted in a brand new building, a drive through check-in and check-out system, a glassed-in reception area, more staff and more vehicles. Rob Rusland has added a new storage facility to his growing business. Chemong Storage is located at 1012 County Road 19, which is the first set of lights north of Portage Place. Silken Laumann speaks
The Chamber of Commerce and the Women's Business Network are presenting an evening with Olympic Rower Silken Laumann, a fundraiser for the Flood Relief Committee. It's on Tuesday, September 21 at The Canadian Canoe Museum at 910 Monaghan Road from 6 - 9 pm. You can tour the Museum and enjoy wine and cheese.
Silken will speak at 7.30 on the topic "What I've Learned From Rowing Backwards In A Wooden Boat", an address on leadership and dealing with adversity.

Counselling services for employees
Community Counselling and Resource Centre (CCRC) is pleased to report an expansion of their Employee Assistance Programs throughout Peterborough City and County. Through this service, companies large and small can offer employees confidential counselling services provided by experienced, professional counsellors. These services can help resolve problems before they affect health, family life or job performance. Wellness seminars, crisis intervention services and organizational consultations are also available. Emergency services can be contacted 24 hours per day.
They offer these services as part of the Family Services Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP), a national network of service agencies across Canada working through community-based counselling agencies.
