Quilts? ... absolutely!

The Quilt House on George Street has a new name and a new owner. Judith Tansley will officially launch Absolutely! Quilts this Saturday with a day-long celebration.

Absolutely! Quilts is three floors filled with absolutely everything quilts ... The first floor displays a wide range of new designer fabrics including flannels, Batiks, and Thimbleberriesä, broadcloths, extra wide backings and a variety of trims, ribbons and notions. If you're looking for ideas, there are books, magazines and patterns, as well as a gallery of finished quilts. You will also find a schedule of class projects which occur in the well lit, fully equipped classroom on the second level. On the third floor you'll find the Gammill long-arm machine quilter where you can arrange to finish your quilting project. Absolutely! Quilts is located at 432 George St. North in Peterborough. Call 705-741-5062.

Clogged drain? Who ya gonna call?

If you are having problems with a drain, sink, sewer, toilet, tub, who ya gonna call? David Bateman of Clog Busters! It's a new company offering same-day service to residential and commercial customers, plus specialty services to restaurants such as grease trap cleaning and vent hood steam cleaning. Check out www.clogbusters.ca or just call 705-742-1706.

Official ribbon cutting

Speaking of Grand Openings, Mary LaRocque's Thomas Cook Travel has its official ribbon cutting this Friday at 12:30 pm. That's in the Heritage Plaza beside Home Depot.

Iron woman

When you think of a blacksmith, I'm sorry but you probably think of a "guy." A guy with big arms like cedar posts. I'm sure you don't envision Pauline Golebski, a teeny little thing from Omemee who is indeed a blacksmith, and an accomplished one at that. Her company, Middle Earth Iron Art, offers hand forged home and garden furniture, objects of art and custom designs. Have a look at Pauline's portfolio online at www.middleearthironart.com or call 705-292-5844.

Where's the beef?

Jason McIntosh is a Beef Farmer, and like many farmers he "works out", which doesn't mean he goes to the Y to lift weights, it means he has a daytime job. In Jason's case that job is the Rural Routes store at the Co-op on Lansdowne Street. Jason is a real entrepreneur when it comes to selling his beef, and his latest venture is a freezer full of it at the Coop. You can buy everything from steaks to Sheppard's pie, and it's all locally grown beef - Kawartha Choice. For details you can give Jason a call at 705-743-7417.

Workshops for women

It's an opportunity find out where you are versus where you would like to be, as well as how to avoid or recover from financial roadblocks.
