New Store Features Local Craftspeople The Chicken Coop is a brand new store, opened last weekend by Trudy Heffernan. It's located in Springville, at 6681 Highway 7, about a mile south of Sticklings Bakery. The Chicken Coop features furnishings by all local suppliers and craftspeople, including blanket boxes, jam cupboards, shelving and end tables to custom made. There are Christmas Crafts, gift baskets, jewellery, rustic windows, homemade candles, mittens scarves and afghans. You can call the Chicken Coop at 705-740-0809. New Restaurant/Bars on Hunter Street West Gerti's is a hot new restaurant and bar at 225 Hunter Street just east of Aylmer. Owners Gerti and Alban Sina will be familiar to anyone who has been in to the East City Coffee Shop the last few years. Gerti's has seating for 60 and features a set menu and lots of lunch and dinner specials. Call it modern pub fare, everything is made from scratch and Gerti says there's only two things you need to know, he has the best burger in town and there is no microwave in the kitchen. Gerti's is open seven days a week, daily from 11:30 am to 2:00 am, Sunday from 5:00 pm until 2:00 am. Dinner ends at 10:00 pm. Call 705-743-7212 for more information, or to make Christmas reservations. Meanwhile, a couple of doors down, The Rusty Snail is quickly finding success. Owner Chandra Renner describes the Rusty Snail as a pub in the British tradition of a corner pub, but featuring the eclectic and unique designer touches of Sean More. The place is packed with Sean's one of a kind artistic pieces. There is seating for 38 and the menu features simple homemade fare such as their secret chili, lots of vegetarian dishes, a mysterious little thing called a Pig in the Orchard Sandwich, and homemade desserts. The pub serves a full range of liquor, cocktails and imported and domestic draught and bottled beer. The Rusty Snail is located at 231 Hunter Street call 705-750-1529 for more information.
