Hop on board for a free horse drawn wagon ride through the historic village as pioneers demonstrate their trades and daily activities. Launch: United Way of Peterborough and District presents the 69th Annual United Way Campaign Kick-Off Breakfast from 7 - 8:30 a.m. at the Evinrude Centre (911 Monaghan Rd., Peterborough, K9J 5K6). Come and participate in the launch of the 2010 United Way campaign. This year's slogan is "The Way to Help the Most." Last year, the United Way and its 33 member agencies provided 36,000 nutritious meals to 736 seniors, served 7,900 hungry local people with food monthly through 40 food banks and distribution projects, provided 1,200 coats for children in need, and gave over 3,400 families, youth and individuals emergency housing supports or shelter. The Buy Local Share Local tour is travelling to 18 farmers? markets in 15 different cities across Ontario between August and October with a goal to raise 25,000 pounds of fresh, local food for food banks across Ontario. Peterborough residents can support the campaign by coming to the Wednesday Farmers? Market and dropping off their donation of fresh, local produce to the Buy Local Share Local booth. Quilt Show: Burkhorn Area Quilters' Guild presents Qulting at the Lakes - Autumn Splendour beginning at 10 a.m. at the Buckhorn Community Centre (1801 Lakehurst Rd., Buckhorn, K0M 1J0). More than 200 quilts by Guild members will be displayed. Featured Quilter Helen Fujiki will do demonstrations and answer questions. Quilt Appraiser Rosalie Tennison will appraise quilts brought by attendees. The event will also include Hoffman Challenge Quilts as well as a vendors' village. Saturday, September 18 & Sunday, September 19

Pow Wow: Curve Lake First Nation presents the Annual Curve Lake Pow Wow from noon - 4 p.m. at Lance Woods Park (Whetung St. E., Curve Lake, K0L 1T0). Canada's First Nations still gather for pow wows every year, harking back to the time when their ancestors reunited after searching far and wide for game to feed themselves through winter. Non-Natives are also welcome at the Curve Lake Pow Wow and there is a different theme each year. This year's theme is "Honouring Your Original Being." Seminar: Peterborough Power and Sail Squadron presents a Fall Boating Course from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational School (201 McDonnel Street, Peterborough, K9H 2W1). CPS Boating course is a non-profit group teaching safe boating to all by local volunteers. You may have your licence, now increase your knowledge. Learn to be safer on the water for 2011! Workshop: New Canadians Centre, Peterborough Mother Goose Program and Peterborough Public Library present Peterborough Parent-Child Mother Goose Program from 10 - 11 a.m. at Peterborough Public Library (345 Aylmer St. N., Peterborough, K9H 3V7). The goal of the 10-week long program is to use simple songs and stories to help parents and children grow closer together.
