There are a great network of trails ranging from moderate to advanced difficulty suitable for those riders confident with winding single-track, climbing hills and navigating roots, rocks and small logs. Intermediate riders will focus on improving bike control, endurance and power, while advanced riders will ride at race pace. We are now also offering a youth ride. For local rides, meet at 6:15 pm at the Silver Bean to ride as a group to Harold Town, or meet at the Harold Town parking lot at 6:30 pm. Helmets and a PCC membership are required. Bring a pump, spare tube, etc. Check the forum weekly for information as rides/events may change location due to weather and trail conditions. Cost: PCC Membership is required. For more information please visit www.peterboroughcc.com.
Wednesdays
Sporting Activity: Peterborough Cycling Club presents Wednesday "Tempo Ride" beginning at 6:15 p.m. in Peterborough. The aim of this ride is to increase a cyclist’s knowledge and skill level so that they can participate in group rides safely and efficiently. Participants will gain experience with 2 main types of group riding formations: the double pace line and the echelon. We split the rides into three groups – basic, intermediate B, and intermediate A – either at the beginning of the ride or after a short warm-up ride. If you are a strong rider and have limited group experience, the basic group is recommended as the focus will be on fundamental skills for riding in groups at a slower pace. This is a no-drop ride but it is expected that both bicycle and rider are in appropriate condition to ride. This should not be your first introduction to group riding. You should be able to ride for prolonged periods at speeds of 30 kph. Additionally, you should be able to efficiently utilize the shifting mechanism on your bike. Please bring a pump, spare tube, front & rear flashing lights. Cost: PCC Membership is required. For more information please visit www.peterboroughcc.com.
Sporting Activity: Peterborough Cycling Club presents Wednesday "Cyclocross Skills/Workout" beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Peterborough. Cyclocross is the fastest growing two-wheeled sport in North America – and a great way to extend your riding season in the Fall. The Wednesday night MiniCross Ride is a great way to learn the basics of cyclocross, prepare for the PCC Cross Series, and have a great workout. The Wednesday Night MiniCross will begin late August. Rides in August and early September have a focus on skills development – dismounts, barriers, cornering – Rides will later incorporate an interval style workout with skills practice mixed in. MiniCross rides meet at 6:30 p.m. at Olympus Park in the north end and usually last about an hour. PCC membership is required, helmets are mandatory. A cyclocross bike or mountain bike will be adequate. This ride does go rain or shine – it is cyclocross afterall. Ride leader is Jamie Elcombe. Cost: PCC Membership is required. For more information please visit www.peterboroughcc.com.
Thursdays
Sporting Activity: Peterborough Cycling Club presents "Thursday Nighter" rides beginning at 6 p.m. in Peterborough. This is a competitive ride. The group is split into A and B groups near the beginning of the ride. Group A, the fastest ride, tends to include Senior 1-3, Master 1-2, strong women and fast juniors. Rides start from a number of locations depending on the ride, so please check the calendar or forum on the website weekly for locations, start times and other important details. Rides end at sunset, and are 50 to 110 km. The season has a mix of rides that can be fairly flat, quite hilly or feature a selection of local dirt road sections, a.k.a. Dirty Thursdays. This ride is faster than the Wednesday Tempo Ride and requires superior individual bike handling skills, a certain amount of tenacity and, frankly, a willingness to suffer. Be familiar with the area as there is no sweep to pick up dropped riders. Helmets are required as well as membership to the PCC. If you don’t want to join us for Dirty Thursdays, keep in mind that the Thursday Tempo Ride will be riding on pavement, so go join them. Cost: PCC Membership is required. For more information please visit www.peterboroughcc.com.
Sporting Activity: Peterborough Cycling Club presents Thursday "Tempo Ride" beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Peterborough. This ride will follow the schedule and route of the Thursday Nighter, except on Dirty Thursdays. This group will be a little slower and will be working cooperatively as a group until the final sprint. You will gain practical experience with 2 types of group riding formations: the double pace line and, later in the season, the echelon. Our goal is to perfect these 2 types of group riding formations, and increase each cyclist’s knowledge and skill level so that they can eventually participate in the Thursday Nighter safely and efficiently. If you enjoy the faster segment of the Wednesday Tempo ride, you’ll enjoy this ride. It’ll be a hard ride, but one without any attacks until the sprint. This is not a beginner ride, it is a ride for people with intermediate to advanced skills who are fit or have the desire and ability to become fit quickly. We will leave at 6:05 from Silver Bean or 6:30 from the Douro Arena. Cost: PCC Membership is required. For more information please visit www.peterboroughcc.com.
Saturdays
Sporting Activity: Peterborough Cycling Club presents Saturday "Rec Ride" beginning at 2 p.m. in Peterborough. The Saturday Rec Ride is just like the Wednesday Rec Ride though the distances will generally be longer. The ride will start on May 11 and continue until late September. Each ride will leave from the Silver Bean. The focus is on having a sociable ride and getting comfortable riding in a group. For those new to group riding, there will be instruction in the “dos and don’ts” of group riding. This ride exists so that people who are new to group riding, or who want companionship as some motivation to get out on a bike, have a group to join. The first few rides will likely be shorter and slower than rides later in the season. Rides will generally be two hours, or more, in duration. The goal is to have people ready to complete rides of slightly over 100 km within four hours of riding by the end of August. Last year’s group attended an organized 100 km ride in Picton at the end of September and a grand time was had by all. A road bike and helmets are required. Cost: PCC Membership is required. For more information please visit www.peterboroughcc.com.
Sporting Activity: Peterborough Cycling Club presents Saturday "Women's Ride" beginning at 9 a.m. in Peterborough. The chic ride is back for another season. This teaching and riding format was well received last year by all who participated. All women who are PCC members are welcome to come out and enjoy the beautiful roads around Peterborough with a group of like-minded gals. Rides will begin Saturday May 25 and continue until early September. This is a 1.5 to 3 hour road ride at a moderate pace (25km/h average speed) that suits intermediate level riders. The group will meet Saturdays at the Silver Bean. Exact distances and routes will be determined based on the needs of the group. Road bikes in good working order are required, as well as helmets, spare tubes, pumps, etc. Because group riding skills will be used, mountain bikes and hybrids are not appropriate for this ride. Cost: PCC Membership is required. For more information please visit www.peterboroughcc.com.
