Heritage: Curve Lake First Nation presents 6th Annual Mnoominkewin Gathering (Wild Rice Festival) beginning at 7:00 pm at Lime Kiln Park (70 Whetung St., Curve Lake, K0L 1R0). A full day of free family fun featuring talks by Winona Laduke, Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, Chandra Maracle, and Rick Hill, meals by Shawn Adler, and activities including planting, gathering, processing, and eating mnoomin (wild rice). At 7:30 p.m., ReFrame Film Festival will present a free community screening of "Feather Fall," a 2024 short film which celebrates a community protecting lands and waters. Bring your own water bottle and feast bundle (plate, bowl, and cutlery) if you are able to. Dress for the weather and bring your own chair or blanket to sit on. You are invited to bring your hand drum and any mnoomin-related projects you are working on (e.g., beading, quillwork). Sunrise ceremony at 7 a.m. Cost: Free (breakfast, lunch, supper and all activities are free of charge), but advance registration required.
