Film: Minden Hills Cultural Centre presents "Speakers for the Dead" (2000) beginning at 1:00 pm at Minden Hills Cultural Centre (174-176 Bobcaygeon Rd., Minden, K0M 2K0). "Speakers for the Dead" is a National Film Board of Canada documentary by David Sutherland and Jennifer Holness that explores a largely forgotten chapter of Black history in rural Ontario, focusing on the deliberate burial of gravestones from a historic Black cemetery in Priceville in the 1930s and the efforts decades later to restore it. Through excavation footage, interviews, and re-enactments, the film examines how racism and silence shaped local memory and the emotional process of reclaiming erased history. This work deals with mature subject matter. Viewer discretion is advised. Cost: Free. For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/mindenculturalcentre.
