Volunteers are leading the way in establishing community orchards in a number of City of Peterborough parks and community gardens. In the spring, fruit trees need to be pruned to spur new growth and to shape the tree for good air flow and sun exposure, and mulch needs to be laid to help protect growing root systems. Community Orchard Spring Stewardship Days take place on May 3 at 10 a.m. at Keith Wightman Park, on May 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Reid/McDonnel Orchard, and on May 14 at 12 p.m. at Talwood Community Garden, at 1:30 p.m. at Dominion Park, and as 5:30 p.m. at Roland Glover.
