Draw the Line is part of a wider series of global mobilizations to demand justice in the face of economic turmoil, ecological and climate catastrophe, political instability, vicious attacks on fundamental human rights, militarization and, in places like Palestine and Sudan, genocide. In Canada, government policies at the provincial and federal levels continue to create chronic and unacceptable levels of poverty and homelessness for Canada's most vulnerable populations, while creating an unaffordability crisis for millions of Canadians. The provincial Bill 5 and federal Bills C-5 and C-2 give the Ontario and federal governments the right to trample Indigenous sovereignty, environmental protections, hard-won union rights, and the rights of immigrants, all in the name of creating greater prosperity for Canadians. But citizens are now wondering: prosperity for whom?
