Art Gallery of Peterborough presents "Lithic Life" by Cole Swanson

Date:Saturday, January 17 - Sunday, March 29, 2026
Location:    Art Gallery of Peterborough (250 Crescent St., Peterborough)
Cost:Free (donations encouraged)

"Lithic Life" is a mid-career survey charting Toronto-based artist and educator Cole Swanson's material and ecological investigations into geology and pigment-making, drawing on mineral diversity just north of Peterborough to explore deep time, landscape processes, and human and non-human interactions with the earth. The exhibition brings together miniatures and panel paintings, documentation of ephemeral site-specific murals created with hand-sourced mineral pigments (including a collaborative work with artist and curator William Kingfisher), and a site-specific natural-colour work made from the gallery’s own surroundings, highlighting Swanson's 20-year practice grounded in rare pigment techniques and cross-disciplinary research into nature, culture, and the material world. An opening reception will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. on January 17. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday.
