Lecture: Trent University's Community Speakers Series presents "Art & Artifice: Or, What AI Means for Aesthetics" by Dr. Shane Denson beginning at 7:30 pm at Catharine Parr Traill College (315 Dublin St,, Peterborough, K9H 2Z4). The rapid growth of generative AI tools has sparked urgent debates about ethics, governance, and even existential risk. These concerns are real, but they often miss a prior and constitutive dimension: the aesthetic. In this talk, Dr. Shane Denson argues that no adequate understanding of artificial intelligence and no robust AI ethics can be developed without sustained attention to the aesthetic forms through which AI enters human experience. Dr. Denson is Professor of Film and Media Studies and, by Courtesy, of German Studies and of Communication at Stanford University, where he also serves as Director of the PhD Program in Modern Thought & Literature. This lecture takes place in Bagnani Hall. Cost: Free. For more information visit https://mycommunity.trentu.ca/feketelectures.
