Film: Minden Hills Cultural Centre presents "Rosies of the North" (1999) beginning at 1:00 pm at Minden Hills Cultural Centre (174-176 Bobcaygeon Rd., Minden, K0M 2K0). Directed by Kelly Saxberg, "Rosies of the North" tells the story of the thousands of women from Thunder Bay and the Prairies who stepped into Canada's wartime workforce during the Second World War. Swapping aprons for overalls, they packed lunch pails, donned trousers, and took up rivet guns to help build world-class fighter planes at Fort William's Canadian Car and Foundry. By transforming a male-dominated factory floor into one with nearly 40% women, these "Rosies of the North" played a vital role in the war. Cost: Free.
