The Monarch Butterfly Festival is an annual event to celebrate and raise awareness for monarch conservation, and to create opportunities for community members to engage in environmental action. The free community-led festival includes music and performances, crafts, face painting, informational booths, and speakers. Prior to the festival, a chip-timed 10km race will start at Millennium Park and will wind along the Rotary Trail and back. There will also be a 1km Kids Fun Run. The race will also be an opportunity to fundraise for the conservation of monarch sanctuaries in central Mexico by supporting reforestation efforts in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. Monarch-themed costumes are encouraged.
