A staged reading of the historical drama "Quiet in the Land" by Anne Chislett. Jacob "Yock" Bauman, a young man in an Amish community near Kitchener, Ontario, struggles against the strict, pacifist beliefs of his elders, especially his father Christy. As World War I rages and most Canadian men enlist, the Amish refuse to fight. When Yock defies his community and joins the war, he is cast out by his family and alienates Katie, the woman he loves. Despite returning home a decorated veteran celebrated by the rest of Canada, Yock finds Katie has wed someone else and that he has become a moral outcast among his own people. This powerful play explores faith, conscience, and the cost of defying tradition in a rural Ontario Amish community during the First World War.
