Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region (Habitat PKR) is receiving a $10,000 donation from 100 Women Peterborough.
The collective philanthropy group held its second meeting of 2026 on Tuesday (June 16) at Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre. At each of the group’s quarterly meetings, members hears presentations from three non-profit organizations randomly drawn from a larger list of organizations nominated by the group’s members. Each member commits to donating $100, and the organization that gets the most member votes receives the collective donations.
The three organizations that presented to 100 Women Peterborough at June’s meeting were One City Peterborough, Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation, and Habitat PKR, with the latter chosen by majority vote to receive member donations.
The donation from 100 Women Peterborough will support the construction of Our Daughter’s Home, a groundbreaking supportive housing project for seven women with developmental disabilities in Peterborough’s East City.
A partnership between Habitat PKR and the grassroot charity Our Daughter’s Home, the project will create a permanent, purpose-built home on Sophia Street for seven women with developmental disabilities whose families have spent years navigating a critically overwhelmed supportive housing system.
The donation will help fund a commercial-grade sprinkler system required for the home to meet specialized residential care standards. These enhanced safety features, including sprinkler systems, commercial fire alarms, emergency lighting, and other life-safety measures, are essential to ensuring the residents can live safely and independently for decades to come.
“The support of 100 Women Peterborough brings us one step closer to opening the doors of Our Daughter’s Home,” said Habitat PKR general operations manager Natalie Raponi. “This project is about creating permanence, dignity, safety, and belonging for seven women who deserve a place to call home in the community they know and love.”
The June 16 meeting also marked a significant milestone for 100 Women Peterborough, which was formed in 2018 by Rose Terry, Alyssa Stewart, and Wendy Hill. The three co-founders have passed ladership of the organization to longtime members Raponi, Rita Wilke, and Janie Kelly.
“When we started this journey, we knew that collective giving could create meaningful change in our region, but we could never have imagined the incredible impact this community would have,” Terry said.
“Together, we have now raised more than $263,000 for local charities and causes that are helping people throughout Peterborough and the surrounding area. We are immensely proud of what this group has accomplished and deeply grateful to every woman who has been part of this collective. As we pass the torch to a new generation of leaders, we do so with complete confidence. Fresh perspectives and new energy will ensure this impactful giving group continues to thrive and make a difference in our community for years to come.”

100 Women Peterborough is part of a growing collective philanthropy movement that began in the United States in November 2006, when Karen Dunigan of Michigan formed the “100 Women Who Care” group. After their first meeting, those women raised over $10,000 for the purchase of 300 new baby cribs for a local organization.
The movement has grown over the past two decades years to include groups of men, women, youth, and children around the world, with hundreds of chapters in Canada alone.
