22-year-old Markdale man drowns in Little Lake in Peterborough Friday evening

Police say the man entered the water at Beavermead Park beach but did not resurface

A 22-year-old Markdale man drowned in Little Lake at Beavermead Park in Peterborough on Friday evening (July 3).

Peterborough police, fire, and paramedics services were called to the park’s popular beach where, after arriving at around 7:43 p.m., they learned a man had entered the water but did not resurface.

Emergency services located the man, pulled him from the water, and attempted life-saving measures.

The victim was then taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

The beach at Beavermead Park was closed for a period of time but has since reopened.

Markdale is a small community located southeast of Owen Sound in Grey County.
