"Speakers for the Dead" is a National Film Board of Canada documentary by David Sutherland and Jennifer Holness that explores a largely forgotten chapter of Black history in rural Ontario, focusing on the deliberate burial of gravestones from a historic Black cemetery in Priceville in the 1930s and the efforts decades later to restore it. Through excavation footage, interviews, and re-enactments, the film examines how racism and silence shaped local memory and the emotional process of reclaiming erased history. This work deals with mature subject matter. Viewer discretion is advised.
