Kawartha Nordic Ski Club is hosting the 2016 Ontario Midget Championships, for skiers between the ages of 9 and 16, on Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28, 2016.

The event showcases the best able-bodied and Para Nordic youth skiers in Ontario. Around 150 youth skiers, families, and coaches will be visiting the Kawarthas to participate in the freestyle and classic cross-country ski races, supported by a team of almost 100 volunteers.

The 2016 Ontario Midget Championships give youth skiers the opportunity to participate in high-quality races in a relaxed atmosphere among friends. There will be classic and skate ski races in both individual and team relay formats. For many of the athletes, this will be their first ski race; some may go on someday to represent Canada at the Olympics.

The races will be held at Kawartha Nordic, located just 10 minutes south of Apsley on Highway 28 near Haultain. All are welcome to attend the event as spectators and to cheer the skiers on.

The two-day event is preceded by an official training day on Friday, February 26th. Races begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will also be a banquet for athletes, coaches, and families will be held on Saturday, Feburary 27th at 5:30 p.m. at Lakefield District Secondary School.

For skiers, the registration deadline is midnight on Tuesday, February 23rd. Register at www.zone4.ca.
