In collaboration with Trent University, the New Canadians Centre presents a screening of "The Crossing" by George Kurian, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker, Salwa Mirgani of the New Canadians Centre and Laurie Collette, Volunteer Support Team Leader. The documentary is a first-hand account of the perilous journey made by a group of Syrian refugees. Traversing land and sea on an old fishing boat manned by smugglers, the journey leads to Europe where the refugee disperse. The Crossing shows us the lengths to which people go to find safety and forge their own destiny (Arabic with English subtitles). There will be on-site childcare available and it is wheelchair-accessible. If you require accessibility accommodations in order to attend, please contact Jungeon Kim.
