Enjoy a Sunday afternoon of food and drink at the second annual Indulge Wine, Spirits and Food Expo, featuring a special appearance by Lakefield native and Juno-nominated musician Royal Wood.

The event runs from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 26th at The Venue (286 George St., Peterborough).

Royal Wood, who also appeared at last year’s inaugural event, will be performing live music and participating in wine tastings. As well as being a talented songwriter and musician, Wood has always had a passion for food and wine.

“I was raised on 100 acres of farmland outside of Peterborough that specialized in fruit trees, vegetables, and livestock,” he says. “My parents loved cooking, and trained my siblings and me to cook from a very young age. I spent almost as many nights peeling garlic and chopping carrots as I did practicing piano.”

Over the past few years, Wood has been training at Toronto’s George Brown College to become a sommelier.

“I’ve also had a lifelong love affair with wine,” he says. “Being a touring musician, it’s a very stop-start process. But one day I’ll be able to wear the title of sommelier with pride.”

While touring, Wood has also had the opportunity to indulge his passion for wine by visiting Old World wineries throughout France’s Burgundy and Provence regions.

Besides seeing Royal Wood perform and demonstrate his sommelier skills, the event is a great opportunity to sample local food and beverages and meet caterers, producers, vintners, and craft brewers face to face.

Confirmed vendors at the event include Naked Chocolate, Traynor Family Vineyards, Pelee Island Winery, That’s a Wrap Catering, Black Honey, Colio, Bacardi, Labatts, Steam Whistle, Publican House, Direct Cellars, Churchill Cellars, Empire Cheese, Catering Plus, and Mark Anthony Brands.

Tickets are $10, and a portion of ticket sales will be donated to Habitat for Humanity, Peterborough & Kawartha Region.

Advance tickets are available at The Venue or online at ticketscene.ca. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the event.
