The Peterborough Folk Festival has announced its lineup for the 2015 festival, which takes place from Friday, August 21st to Sunday, August 23rd. The festival kicks off on the Friday with an early evening concert at the Market Hall by powerhouse blues-folk performer Matt Andersen, with the 2015 Emerging Artist (to be announced) opening the show.

Here’s the complete lineup of announced performers.

If you didn’t see New Brunswick’s Matt Andersen perform at Showplace Performance Centre in February 2014, you’re in for a treat. Along with a finger-blistering technique on acoustic guitar, Matt has an enormous soulful voice and an engagingly funny stage presence.

He’s headlined major festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America and the UK, and has shared the stage and toured with Randy Bachman, Bo Diddley, Little Feat, April Wine, America, and Loverboy. So far, he’s won a 2013 European Blues Award as well as Best Solo Performer at the Memphis Blues Challenge.

After the Friday kick-off concert, the festival continues on Saturday and Sunday with two free days of music, workshops, and food and craft vendors at Nichols Oval in Peterborough.

While the festival headliner will be announced on Monday, July 27th, confirmed performers include the Juno Award winning Joel Plaskett and Quique Escamilla, and Juno-nominated The Wilderness Of Manitoba and Matthew Barber (whose sister Jill performed at Showplace in February).

Also appearing are Mo Kenney (whose most recent record won a 2015 East Coast Music Awards (ECMA) for Pop Recording of the Year), Irish Mythen (whose latest album won a 2015 ECMA for Roots Traditional Recording of the Year), and Hamilton singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot (no relation to Gord), whose single “No Hurry” is currently on CBC Radio 2’s Top 20 list.

Although tickets for the kick-off concert featuring Matt Andersen are not yet available at the Market Hall box office, you can get them online for $25 at www.ticketscene.ca/events/13212/.
