The Double Cuts at Douro Parish Hall on September 4
There’s going to be a country hoedown on Friday, September 4th as Downtown Douro Dances presents The Double Cuts from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Douro Parish Hall (299 County Road 8, Douro).
Western swing classics merge with old-country played by a group of excellent musicians.

“Who Walks In When I Walk Out” – The Double Cuts
Shelter Valley Folk Festival in Grafton from September 4-6
The highly regarded Shelter Valley Folk Festival takes place Friday, September 4th to Sunday, September 6th in Grafton.
Performers over the weekend expand beyond purely folk. Standouts include the excellent Halifax-born and California-raised songwriter Steve Poltz, the international sound of Turkwaz featuring songs of the Eastern Meditteranean, and Ontario’s eclectic Digging Roots.

Daniel Fortin at The Spill in Peterborough on September 10
On Thursday, September 10th, Peterborough native and jazz bassist extraordinare Daniel Fortin celebrates the release of his first album as a band leader, Brinks, at The Spill (414 George St. N., Peterborough, 705-748-6167).
It features David French on sax, Michael Davidson on vibraphone, and Fabio Ragnelli on drums. The show begins at 8 p.m. and will feature Daniel’s brother Jos. Fortin opening the show.
This will be a great night of jazz!

Also on Thursday, September 10th will be Peterborough favourites Bonus Numbers at The Garnet (231 Hunter St. W., Peterborough, 705-874-0107).
The duo features long-time friends, and members of The Silver Hearts, Trevor Davis and Wyatt Burton.
It’s hard to pinpoint their sound, but it’s inventive and entertaining. It’s been described as an “acoustic vs. electric guitar cage match.” The show begins at 9 p.m.

On Friday, September 11th, Showplace Performance Centre kicks off its fall/winter season as the Elite Blues Series presents Southern U.S. songwriter and bluesman Dewey Via.

BA Johnston at The Red Dog in Peterborough on September 12
Whenever BA Johnston is about to play in town, it’s imperative that everyone knows about it — he’s that much fun.
On Saturday, September 12th, the man himself will be at The Historic Red Dog Tavern (189 Hunter St. W, Peterborough, 705-750-1710). You have to see his show to understand what he’s about, but once you do you’ll be hooked.
Also appearing will be girl rockers Watershed Hour, a “new band of dorks” known as Party Pig!, and Peterborough born Mr. Not Much Fun.
The show starts at 10 p.m. sharp and is $3 before and $6 afterwards.

These guys play rock that takes the long way. It’s original with hints of pop rock and something intanglible. It’s bound to be a good show.

Bowskill and Fewings and Mayhemingways at The Pig’s Ear on September 26
On Saturday, September 26th, the Pig’s Ear Tavern (144 Brock St., Peterborough, 705-745-7255) will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its location as a bar.
There’ll be music all day and into the evening. Details are being finalized, but so far the evening will feature bluegrass/folk duo Bowskill and Fewings and Mayhemingways beginning around 9 p.m. Bowskill and Fewings have not played Peterborough since they ripped it up opening for Fearing & White at the Market Hall.
Admission is only $3 at the door.
