Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Kawarthas for today (August 5) through Monday, August 6th.
This follows a heat warning issued by Peterborough Public Health for the City and County of Peterborough last Friday (August 3).
Daytime maximum values of 31°C or higher are expected today and on Monday, with humidex values reaching 40°C.
Overnight minimum temperatures will only fall to near 20°C, providing little relief from the heat.
A cold front is expected to to move through the area Tuesday bringing an end to this event.
Extreme heat affects everyone. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Environment Canada issues heat warnings when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
