If you missed award-winning musician Julian Taylor’s recent concert at Peterborough Musicfest, you will have another chance to see him perform in September — and this time also help support children, youth, adults, and families who are navigating the loss of a loved one.
Taylor will be headlining “Where Light Grows,” a special benefit concert in support of Camp Kerry Ontario on Sunday, September 13 at 2 p.m. at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre in downtown Peterborough.
Presented by the Lumara Grief & Bereavement Care Society and produced by KS & Co. Productions, the event is described as “an afternoon of music, hope, and community” that will also feature local performers Victoria Yeh, Maria Leahy, Rye Whetung, and Julie Fallis, with Kerry Griffin serving as master of ceremonies.
Funds raised at the event will support the Lumara Society’s Camp Kerry Ontario.
First established in 2007 in British Columbia by Lumara Society co-founder Dr. Heather Mohan, Camp Kerry is a four-day family bereavement retreat program, wherein qualified counsellors and trained volunteers support grieving families.
Since 2014, the Lumara Society has offered Camp Kerry Ontario in addition to Camp Kerry BC. This year, 30 to 40 children from across the province will come together at Camp Kerry Ontario’s retreat at Lion’s Camp Dorset from October 1 to 4.
“Through the power of peer support and evidence-informed programs — including expressive arts, pet therapy, adventure-based activities, and meaningful rituals of remembrance — Camp Kerry creates a safe and compassionate space where children can connect with others who understand their experience,” reads a media release. “Together, they build new positive memories, develop healthy coping skills, and discover they don’t have to navigate grief alone.”

As for Taylor, the Toronto-based singer-songwriter and guitarist blends folk, roots, soul, rock, blues, and country into a unique sound that has earned him multiple Juno Award nominations and widespread recognition and awards from Canadian folk and roots music organizations.
A former member of the alt-rock band Staggered Crossing and later leader of the Julian Taylor Band, as a solo artist Taylor has earned national acclaim for his warm baritone voice, deeply personal songwriting, and thoughtful explorations of identity, family, resilience, and belonging — making him the perfect artist to headline the event.
