Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the entire Kawarthas region for rain and thunderstorms starting Monday night (October 12) and continuing into Tuesday afternoon or evening.
The special weather statement is in effect for Peterborough County, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County, Haliburton County, and Hastings Highlands.
A moisture-laden low pressure system will push into the region Tuesday night, bringing with it showers and the risk for thunderstorms.
Modest amounts of instability are expected to build in overnight through Tuesday. This will lead to the risk for potentially severe thunderstorms, as well as heavy rainfall, through the day on Tuesday.
Local rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 millimetres are possible. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas.
The rain and thunderstorm risk is expected to clear from west to east Tuesday afternoon or early Tuesday evening.
