Education: New Canadians Centre presents "Lessons from the Land" beginning at 9:30 am at Canadian Canoe Museum (2077 Ashburnham Dr., Peterborough, K9L 1P8). Taking place on Canada Day, "Lessons from the Land" represents an important day of learning and reflection on Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. The day features a welcoming and opening with Linda and Janet McCue and Sarah Lewis, a wild rice talk by Janet McCue, a kids' river race with TRACKS Youth Program, a strawberry pin beading circle with Jaida Ponce, a medicines of the land activity with Robyn Ivory, a Voyageur canoe paddle, and a community lunch provided by Thomas Olszewski's Grandfather's Kitchen. All activities are family-friendly. Children should be accompanied by a caregiver. Bring a reusable water bottle (a water fountain is on site), a dish pack (bowl, plate, spoon, fork), and snacks. Also bring your own chair or blanket, as activities will be conducted on the grass as much as possible. Following the event, attendees will be able to explore the Canadian Canoe Museum free of charge, courtesy of New Canadians Centre. Cost: Free (including admission to the Canadian Canoe Museum).
