Musical Theatre: Tweed & Company Theatre presents "Fiddler on the Roof" beginning at 2:00 pm at Bancroft Village Playhouse (5 Hastings St. S., Bancroft, K0L 1C0). Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, "Fiddler on the Roof" has been touching audiences worldwide with its humour, warmth, and honesty. Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centres on poor milkman Tevye and his five daughters. With the help of a colourful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. The show features a star turn in Tevye, among the most memorable roles in musical theatre. With iconic and beloved songs such as "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," this musical is the perfect mix of audience-pleasing humour and heart. Evening performances at 7 p.m. from August 19 to 22, August 26 to 29, and September 2 to 5 with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on August 20, 22 and 23, 27, 29 and 30 (relaxed performance), September 3, and September 5 and 6.
