Exhibit: Peterborough Museum & Archives presents "Films from the Freezer: Preserving F.L. Roy's Cinematic Legacy" beginning at 9:00 am at Peterborough Museum and Archives (Museum Dr. at 300 Hunter St. E., Peterborough, K9J 6Y5). "Films from the Freezer: Preserving F.L. Roy's Cinematic Legacy" celebrates the work of local filmmaker Frederick Lewis Roy (1881–1950) and the conservation effort that rescued his films from the brink of destruction. The exhibition showcases a collection of 46 16mm film reels created by Roy beginning in 1926. Nearly lost after the 2004 Peterborough flood, the films have now been preserved, digitized, and restored through a collaborative project between the Peterborough Museum & Archives and Toronto Metropolitan University. Visitors are invited to discover the story of Roy's filmmaking career, explore the process of film preservation, and experience these films as they were always intended to be seen. As part of the exhibition, a special gala screening will take place on October 8 at Market Hall, where a curated selection of F.L. Roy's films will be presented with live musical accompaniment. The museum is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on weekdays and 12 - 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Cost: Admission by donation ($10 suggested per family or small group).
