The purpose of the mock emergency waterfront exercise is to prepare all emergency responders in the event of an emergency, such as a missing person. This year the exercise will be based on one of the Town of Cobourg’s larger festival weekends, specifically the Canada Day long weekend, when the waterfront and downtown area typically play host to upwards of 40,000 people. Residents can expect to see simulated response elements, live role-playing and large groups of community emergency responders on the beach and in the water. There is no need to call 9-1-1 if residents see first responders on the scene during the activity. Calling 9-1-1 to report this exercise will result in fewer lines being open for real emergencies. The beach will remain open to residents and guests during the emergency exercise. Guests should be aware that they will notice emergency similuation activities and potentially more commotion than usual but are welcome to stay and enjoy the beach as they would any other day
