Previously owned by the non-profit organizations the Peterborough Lawn Bowling Club and the Whitlaw Mariners Seniors Club, the McDonnel Street Activity Centre was acquired by the City of Peterborough in August 2023 and renamed the McDonnel Street Community Centre. The multi-use facility offers rentals, drop-in adult programs, and also provides office space for city recreation and parks staff.
