Born out of a 10 year dream, lots of love and a desire to become the gathering place for the community of East City, Carpe Diem Cafe opened its doors on June 2, 2012.

Owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Marina Bedard and Richard Baccari, Carpe Diem Cafe specializes in all-day breakfasts, healthy hardy lunches and light dinners. The cafe also offers a full range of fair trade, dark French roast specialty coffee, gourmet teas, and refreshing Kawartha Dairy milkshakes.

Everything is made in-house and fresh to order, including belly-warming soups, grilled sandwiches, fresh crisp salads, and decadent baked goods — with the exception of the deliciously gooey butter tarts which come directly from Shed Bakery down the street.

Carpe Diem Cafe has something for everyone. Relax on the couch with a latte and surf the web using free Wi-fi. Bring the kids in for milk and cookies and let them explore the play area. Drop by on Friday night for a glass of wine while enjoying the smooth sounds of The Willow Creek band. Treat yourself to a hot chocolate and piece of pie, while you try your hand at poetry with Jessica Biggar on Wednesday nights.

After a complete restoration of this 100-year-old building from basement to attic, the final touch will come with the completion of the parking lot adjacent to the building, which will make the entire building handicapped accessible.

Carpe Diem Cafe is located in the heart of East City at 552 Armour Road.
