Al Tuck at The Garnet in Peterborough on July 5th
Maritime songwriting treasure Al Tuck returns to Peterborough on Saturday, July 5th at The Red Garnet (231 Hunter St. W., Peterborough, 705-874-0107). Al is a critically acclaimed musician who has garnered recent praise for his latest effort Stranger at the Wake. His tunes drift from sad to poignant, with something insightful in every line. Joining him will be local songsters Nick Ferrio and Sean Conway. The show begins around 10 p.m.

Mayhemingways at The Pig’s Ear in Peterborough on July 5th
Peterborough’s Mayhemingways play a going-away show on Saturday, July 5th at The Pig’s Ear Tavern (144 Brock St., Peterborough, 705-745-7255) before they head on a tour through Quebec, the Maritimes and Newfoundland throughout July. Come hang out and wish the boys luck. The show begins after 10 p.m. and runs until last call with a cost of $3 at the door.

A night of surf rock, slacker rock, and garage rock will take over The Spill (414 George St. N., Peterborough, 705-748-6167) on Saturday, July 12th. British Columbia’s Pinner will be joined by Peterborough acts The Mighty Weed & Cobras and The Faux Cults. If you like the fringes of rock music. you will love this show. Music starts at 10 p.m. and the show is all ages.

Leonard Cohen tribute at The Garnet in Peterborough on July 12th
Leonard Cohen is a Canadian icon, and on Saturday, July 12th at The Red Garnet (231 Hunter St. W., Peterborough, 705-874-0107), there’ll be a “depraved tribute” to him. Beautiful Losers (Peterborough’s premiere Cohen tribute punk band), Dave Tough, and Hello Babies perform his tunes in a way you have never heard before. The gig begins at 10 p.m.

Greg McEvoy and The Great Novel at The Spill in Peterborough on July 17th
For some nice rootsy rock, check out Montreal’s Greg McEvoy and The Great Novel at The Spill (414 George St. N., Peterborough, 705-748-6167) on Thursday, July 17th at 9 p.m. This is really tasty music with banjo, mandolin, guitar, harmonica, drums and percussion, and great harmonies.

Barbeque and blues in Keene on July 19th
The Village of Keene will be home to music and excellent food at the Keene Baseball Diamond (beside the Otonabee-South Monaghan Memorial Community Centre at 24 Fourth St., Keene), as Muddy’s Pit BBQ presents the Keene Summer Barbeque from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 19th. Music will include Mississippi Grover, Bradley Boy Mac Arthur, Micronite Filters, Snow Heel Slim, and Tarantüla. Cost is only $2 to get in.

Halifax’s reggae experts Dub Kartel will be grooving there way to Peterborough to play at The Spill (414 George St. N., Peterborough, 705-748-6167) on Tuesday, July 22nd. The Wayo will be opening up. Bring your dancing shows for a mid-summer night’s dance party. The show begins at 9 p.m.

Nick Ferrio, Spencer Burton, and Eons at The Gallery in the Attic in Peterborough on July 28th
An evening of country folk and beyond takes place at The Gallery in the Attic (140 1/2 Hunter St. W., Peterborough, 705-740-1162) in Peterborough on Monday, July 28th and will feature Nick Ferrio, Spencer Burton (aka Grey Kingdom) and Eons. The show runs from 8 to 10 p.m. This promises to be a night of excellent songwriting and interesting performances.

Concerts in the Park in Lindsay
Every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., the City of Kawartha Lakes presents “Concerts in the Park” in Victoria Park (210 Kent St. W., Lindsay). These are free community concerts that take place at the Frank Banks Gazebo. The patio is a great place to listen to some music and taste some beer.
