Central Smith Creamery has raised $13,420.25 for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) Foundation.

On July 20th, the Peterborough dairy held an “ice cream social” fundraiser, featuring a bouncy castle, live music, a silent auction, an ice cream eating contest, and more.

Hundreds of people turned out for the event, where they were also encouraged to purchase a $2 tribute card to say thank you for great care to the doctors and nurses at PRHC. More than 1,500 tributes were generated during the day.

Central Smith Creamery owner Ian Scates and his family have a long history of volunteering and supporting the hospital.

“The hospital has always been near and dear to our hearts,” said Jenn Scates, vice-president/marketing at Central Smith Creamery.

“We are so fortunate to have a state-of-the-art, accredited hospital right in our community. The doctors and nurses are so committed and passionate about helping people get better. This is our way of saying thank you for the great care.”

Along with the fundraiser, Central Smith Creamery also showed their appreciation for PRHC staff by arriving at the hospital’s cafeteria at lunch on July 25th to offer free ice cream as a personal thank you to PRHC’s doctors and nurses.

“We are grateful to Central Smith and the Scates family for their ongoing support of our hospital,” says PRHC Foundation president and CEO Lesley Heighway.

“It is wonderful community events like the Central Smith Ice Cream Social that allow our doctors and nurses to have access to the very best tools and technology that support innovative, compassionate, world class care for patients from across our region.”

Heighway says Central Smith’s support will help fund essential equipment and technology at PRHC, where significant investments are needed to fund the technological advancements and essential medical equipment that support excellent patient care.

Central Smith Creamery and ice cream parlour is located at 739 Lindsay Road in Peterborough (one kilometre west of Chemong Road on the Lindsay highway) and is open from 12 to 8 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.
