Tractor-trailer jackknifed on Highway 28 north of Apsley Tuesday afternoon due to icy road conditions

Peterborough County OPP are advising people to use caution with winter weather travel advisory in effect for northern Kawarthas

With a winter weather travel advisory in effect for the northern Kawarthas region for Tuesday (November 21), police are advising people to slow down and drive safely after a tractor-trailer jackknifed on Highway 28 north of Apsley.

Peterborough County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report an influx of calls related to dangerous road conditions due to roads becoming icy.

On Tuesday afternoon, a tractor-trailer that jackknifed as a result of icy road conditions has blocked Highway 28 north of Mill Lake Road. Emergency crews are working to clear the vehicle from the road.

Officers have reported that Highway 28 anywhere north of Burleigh Falls is experiencing icy conditions. Peterborough County’s roads department has been advised of the situation.

“Peterborough County OPP would like to advise the public to use caution when travelling today and drive according to conditions,” reads a media release.

“With the current temperatures as well as precipitation icy conditions are expected. Be prepared to have your drive take longer and, if you don’t need to be on the roads, then please stay home.”
