Although the final episodes of season four of the popular action-thriller series Reacher are still to be released on Amazon Prime Video, filming is already underway in Ontario for the fifth season — including at a location in the Kawarthas region.
Under the code name “Honcho,” the production company for the show filmed exterior shots at Minden Whitewater Preserve south of Horseshoe Lake in the Haliburton Highlands, along with other nearby locations, during the last week of August.
Actor Alan Ritchson posted an Instagram reel from Minden on Saturday (August 29).
“I’m going in that,” Ritchson said, pointing to the Gull River. “We gotta go in that.”
Reacher is based on the best-selling books by British author Lee Child, with Ritchson portraying the titular character Jack Reacher, a brawny yet astute former military policeman who becomes a drifter after leaving the army and uses his expertise and physical strength and combat skills to solve crimes and right wrongs.
The fifth season of the show will be based on 2015’s Make Me, the 20th book in the series. When Reacher steps off a train in a remote Midwestern town called Mother’s Rest, he finds himself entangled in a missing person case alongside a former FBI agent turned private investigator. As the duo investigates, they unravel a deeply disturbing, dark web conspiracy that forces Reacher to confront a deadly and unprecedented nightmare.
Canadian actors Amanda Ip and Jay Baruchel will also star in the season, with Ip portraying private investigator Michelle Chang and Baruchel playing local police chief Buck Bauer.
As for the Minden location, the film crew began filming there at the end of July and returned again at the end of August, after the show finished shooting at Oshawa’s Kingsway Motel, which was transformed into the fictional Horseshoe Motel. While filming in Oshawa, Ritchson took a break to greet a large crowd of fans.
This isn’t the first time Reacher has filmed in the Kawarthas. In 2024, scenes from the third season were filmed in downtown Millbrook, which was transformed into a small town in Maine. In another local connection, Peterborough actor Wyatt Lamoureux appeared in a non-speaking role in the first season of the series in 2022.
The fifth season of Reacher is expected to be released in late 2027 or early 2028,
