Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the entire Kawarthas region for showers and embedded thunderstorms beginning Monday night (August 31).
The special weather statement is in effect for Peterborough County, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County, Haliburton County, and Hastings Highlands.
Showers and embedded thunderstorms will begin Monday evening and continue until Tuesday morning.
An embedded thunderstorm is a thunderstorm hidden within a larger area of clouds or steady precipitation, making it difficult or impossible to see from the ground or from an aircraft. Embedded thunderstorms can still produce lightning, hail, heavy rain, and strong winds.
Local rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are expected, possibly exceeding 40 mm, especially for areas that receive thunderstorms. Environment Canada may issue rainfall warnings.
