Alvea Hurlington is the Community Engagement Assistant with the New Canadians Centre in Peterborough. She supports efforts to build bridges between the New Canadians Centre and the Peterborough community. Alvea has lived in Peterborough for more than 15 years and has also lived in Toronto for post-secondary education. Although born and raised in Canada, she has always felt especially connected to other migrants and newcomers. Her multicultural family heritage inspires her to connect deeply with various cultures.
In partnership with the SPARK Photo Festival, the New Canadians Centre in Peterborough created a multi-generational photography project to inspire newcomers to explore and connect with Canadian culture, language, and the environment through hands-on photographic instruction and activity.
