Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawarthas Region (Habitat PKR) is hosting its second Women Build Retreat from October 3 to 5, 2025 at Camp Timberlane in the Haliburton Highlands. In addition to supporting Habitat PKR's affordable homeownership builds, the retreat will see participants spending the weekend relaxing, engaging in yoga and other outdoor activities and events, and constructing a bunkie that will be auctioned off by Places for People, an affordable rental housing charity in Haliburton County. "Wild Wagi" by David Grieve, one of the 33 artists participating in the 32nd annual Apsley Autumn Studio Tour on September 20 and 21, 2025. After a devastating winter, the birds of prey centre near Apsley in North Kawartha Township found support from the community.
This summer, Apsley real estate agent Tania Rightmyer set out to complete a self-imposed challenge to stand-up paddleboard along the entire perimeter of Chandos Lake, one of the largest lakes in the region, to see every cottage from the water's view. Over the course of eight days, 15 hours, and more than 70 kilometres, she met with many neighbours, saw wildlife, and raised awareness about how clean the lake is. Not only are the upcycled birdbaths good for birds and for the environment, making them helps Koshul de-stress from her jobs as a grief counsellor and college instructor.
