Now in its fourth year, the community yard sale is returning on Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
An 1874 engraving published in The Illustrated London News shows Irish emigrants preparing to leave the Queenstown port in County Cork, Ireland for North America. Peterborough actor Elaine Day, who is a descendant of one of the Irish emigrants who came to Upper Canada in 1825 as part of a settlement initiative by Peter Robinson, plays the role of The Descendant in Trent Valley Archives Theatre's inaugural production "Tide of Hope," which takes place in Ireland in 1825 and tells the story of one of the emigrants. Founded by local artists Emerance Baker and Christy Haldane, Divine Craft is a new community artists' hub in Lakefield. Named after author Margaret Lawrence's novel "The Diviners", Divine Craft exhibits fine craft, including jewellery, print, design, textiles, and more, from artists across Ontario. Founded in 2003 by wife-and-husband team Sarah Quick and James Barrett, Globus Theatre has been operating out of the Lakeview Arts Barn in Bobcaygeon since 2006 and wants to ensure it can continue doing so into the future by purchasing and upgrading the building. The Blocks and Blooms event on June 15, 2024 hosted by the Millbrook Cavan Historical Society is a self-guided tour where visitors can learn about historical properties in the area while enjoying abundant gardens and seeing a display of vibrant contemporary and heirloom quilts. Built in 1837, the Ontario or Regency Cottage at 3 Bank Street is likely the oldest surviving house in Millbrook.
