Participants will work with all natural materials, from plants to bugs to minerals, and leave with the knowledge to continue dyeing at home with guidance from our expert instructor, Julie Sinden*. On the first day, students will learn about mordanting, preparing the dye-bath, and will dye their chosen fabrics. On the second day, unique dye techniques will be explored, such as Indigo dyeing and shibori. Some materials will be provided, but participants are strongly encouraged to bring whichever natural fibres they would like to work with. Suggested fabrics include cotton fabric, linen fabric, fleece and wool yarn- no synthetics, please! Students will leave with a small sample book of their creations to reference for future use.
