Marie Dressler Foundation presents the 29th Marie Dressler Foundation Vintage Film Festival

Location:    Cameco Capitol Arts Centre (20 Queen St., Port Hope)
Cost:$79 festival pass for all 13 films and Sunday seminar, $94 festival pass for all 13 films and Sunday seminar and lunch, $10 for individual films, free for anyone 25 and under (at door only)

The theme of this year's program is "breakout roles": performances that transformed actors into movie stars, that lifted them into the ranks of the A-list, that boosted them onto a new plateau of celebrity. Films on Friday from 4 - 10:30 p.m. are East of Eden (1955), The Awful Truth (1937), and Frankenstein (1931). Films on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. are National Velvet (1944), He Who Gets Slapped (1924), Funny Girl (1968), The Producers (1967), The Last Picture Show (1971), and Little Caesar (1931). Films on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. - 5:45 p.m. are M. Hulot's Holiday (1953), Little Old New York (1923), This Gun For Hire (1942), and Twentieth Century (1934). Lunch seminar on Sunday: "Dangerous Dames: Celebrating the Women of Pre-Code Gangster Movies" by Heather Babcock (bring your own lunch or order one onsite for $15). Unlimited popcorn all weekend for all festival attendees.
