Canada takes the spotlight in the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra's opening concert of its 2023-24 season with former principal violist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Máté Szücs, joining the musicians of the orchestra in a newly commissioned concerto by Canadian composer Ronald Royer. "Four Poems" by Alberta native Christine Donkin was inspired by Canadian poet and prose writer Sir Charles G.D. Roberts. This concert opens with Ravel's Le tombeau de Couperin and closes with Prokofiev's beloved Classical Symphony, two great odes from the early 20th century. There will be a pre-concert talk at 6:45 p.m. with conductor Michael Newnham.
