Sunday, August 23

Theatre: Capitol Theatre presents "Gaslight" beginning at 2:00 pm at Capitol Theatre Arts Centre (20 Queen St., Port Hope, L1A 2Y7). In Patrick Hamilton's iconic 1938 play, Bella Manningham thinks she's losing her mind. In the evenings, she hears strange sounds and the gas lights dim for no apparent reason. But is she losing her grip on reality, or is it being loosened for her? This Canadian adaptation reimagines the classic thriller from a modern perspective, with a "what if?" that takes Bella's life in a new and dangerous direction. The question is, will she be able to find the strength and cunning to save herself? Written by Johnna Wright and Patty Jamieson based on Patrick Hamilton's play and directed by Marie Farsi. Evening performances at 7:30 p.m. on August 21 and 22, 27 to 29, and September 3 to 5, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on August 23, 25 to 27, 29 and 30, September 1 to 3 and 5 and 6. Pay-what-you-can preview on August 21, Indigenous community night on August 28, relaxed performance on August 30, and talkback after every Thursday performance. Cost: Ticket prices to be announced, with online ordering open on March 3. For more information and tickets, visit https://capitoltheatre.com.
