Vintage and classic cars and motorcycles are revving their engines once again for the 29th Annual Transportation Day Car & Motorcycle Show at Lang Pioneer Village Museum in Keene on Sunday (July 12).
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine, vehicle enthusiasts from across Ontario will be showcasing their rides throughout the historic village.
Climb aboard a horse-drawn wagon or take a leisurely stroll and explore the show, where you can vote for your favourite car and motorcycle. More than 25 trophies will be awarded, including the coveted People’s Choice and Lang’s Choice awards.
You can also learn more about how transportation has changed over the years and the roles various trades have played in the creation of transportation methods.
There will be a variety of historic demonstrations including Jacquard loom-weaving, log hand-hewing, and Grist Mill demonstrations.
For kids, there will be school lessons on pioneer travel and transportation, old-fashioned schoolyard games, a corn sandbox, and a craft activity at the Ayotte Cabin.
Take in a tongue-in-cheek suffrage meeting at the Town Hall at set times, check out the display by the Peterborough Model Railroaders, and stop by the courtyard at the Peterborough County Agricultural Heritage Building to hear tunes from the 1950s to 1980s by DJ Del and Jenny Jams.
Food options (for an additional fee) include freshly popped kettle corn from Ben’s Kettle Corn, BBQ items from the Keene Lions Club food truck (cash only), mini-pancakes on a stick from Lea’s Creations, fresh Empire Cheese curds, bread, and pickles on a stick at the Cheese Factory, and refreshments and sweet treats at the Keene Hotel.
Admission costs $17 for adults, $12 for students and seniors 60 and older, and $9 for children and youth ages five to 14, with free admission for children under five. Family admission is also available for $45 and includes two adults and up to four children and youth. Visitors can purchase admission in advance online or at the gates. Make sure to bring cash as there is no ATM on-site.
If you’re a classic car or motorcycle enthusiast and want to display your vehicle, participant registration runs from 8 a.m. to noon (gates open at 7 a.m.) on show day. Space is limited and is available on a first-come first-served basis. The $10 registration fee includes admission into the village.
The first 200 vehicles to register will receive a complimentary dash plaque as a souvenir of their participation.
