If you’re looking to treat Mom with something special this Mother’s Day, why not take her to see crooner Brian Roman at the Market Hall in Peterborough on Sunday afternoon?
Brian sings the songs of the great entertainers of the past, including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond, and Dean Martin.
He’s back in town following his April 27th performance at the 6th annual Peterborough SPEAKS, where he helped to raise funds for Your Family Health Team Foundation.
After hearing from the inspirational “game changer” speakers at that event, he felt inspired to do more. So when he heard an event was cancelled at the Market Hall, he decided to do another concert to support Your Family Health Team Foundation.
“Due to the last minute cancellation, it just seemed right,” Brian says. “It also seemed liked a great opportunity to do some further fundraising after Peterborough SPEAKS.”
Brian’s story is inspiring on its own. In 2005, at the age of 42, Brian decided to leave a 24-year career in life insurance to pursue his life-long dream of becoming a professional singer — despite having no formal training. He decided to launch his new career by taking a huge risk: he took a line of equity out on the family home and rented Roy Thomson Hall for his debut concert.
The risk paid off: his concert sold out and received glowing reviews, and Brian was subsequently featured on the front page of The Toronto Star. He then got a recording contract and hasn’t looked back.
Although he lives in Toronto, Brian has been supporting fundraising for health care in Peterborough for several years.
“My family is here and I spent summer vacations visiting them,” he explains. “Peterborough is like a second home to me.”
Brian’s live musical performance on Mother’s Day takes place at 3 p.m. at the Market Hall.
“It’s the perfect gift and a perfect way to spend time with Mom on her special day,” Brian says. “You can go out for lunch first or have dinner afterwards — the timing is great.”
Tickets are $22.50 ($32.50 for cabaret-style table seating) and a portion of ticket sales will be donated to Your Family Health Team Foundation, which support patients in our community who rely on the care delivered by the Peterborough Family Health Team.
