Environment Canada issues Christmas Day snow squall warning for northern Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes

25-40 cm of snow expected in northern areas, with 5 cm in southern areas

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for northern Peterborough County and northern Kawartha Lakes for Christmas Day.

A snow squall warning for southern Peterborough County and southern Kawartha Lakes has been replaced with a winter weather travel advisory.

Lake effect snow squalls will begin Sunday morning (December 25) and continue into Sunday night, with significantly reduced visibility due to heavy snow and blowing snow.

Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 40 cm are expected for northern Peterborough County and northern Kawartha Lakes.

For southern Peterborough County and south Kawartha Lakes, local snow accumulation up to 5 cm is expected, with westerly wind gusts up to 70 km/h producing blowing snow in exposed areas. Gusty winds will continue until Sunday evening.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
