Musical Theatre: Tweed & Company Theatre presents "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at Bancroft Village Playhouse (5 Hastings St. S., Bancroft, K0L 1C0). Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards, this musical comedy follows an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Music and lyrics by William Finn with book by Rachel Sheinkin. Evening performances at 7 p.m. July 8 to 11 and July 15 to 18 with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on July 9, 11 and 12, 16, and 18 and 19.
