The buzz is building each day for Toronto’s July Talk.

A mix of twang and rock with some sensibilities of Tom Waits thrown in for good measure, they’ll be performing at The Historic Red Dog (189 Hunter St. W, Peterborough, 705-750-1710) on Friday, December 6th at 10 p.m.

2nd Annual Dan Fewings Community Christmas at PCVS

A holiday variety show like none other, the 2nd Annual Dan Fewings Community Christmas will be on for one night only at the PCVS Auditorium (201 McDonnel St., Peterborough) on Saturday, December 7th beginning at 7:30 p.m. Artists include Jimmy Bowskill, Express and Company, The Three Martinis, Tiny Davis, and many more!

Peterborough Symphony Orchestra at George Street United Church

Classic holiday tunes will be beautifully played by the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra as part of “Home for the Holidays” at George St. United Church (534 George St. N., Peterborough) on Saturday, December 7th at 8 p.m.

Stacey at The Spill

As the weather gets colder, there will be a nice warm evening of music at The Spill (414 George St. N., Peterborough, 705-748-6167) on Tuesday, December 10th at 9 p.m.

Toronto musician Stacey will be releasing her self-titled E.P. Her music is melancholy, bittersweet, and features lush piano and soaring vocals. You will definitely want to check our her tunes.

Also playing is hometown boy Nick Procyshyn who will be joined by bass player Liam Wilson. Last but not least will be The Evan MacDonald Band.

Admission will be between $5 – $10 at the door.

A Christmas tradition for many years in Peterborough, the 14th annual In From the Cold Christmas concert — in support of the Youth Emergency Shelter — is back with Celtic carols and contemporary seasonal songs.

There are two performances, on Friday, December 13th and Saturday, December 14th, both at 8 p.m. at the Market Hall (140 Charlotte St., Peterborough). The show will feature Carried Away, Convivio Chorus, Soulstice Canadensis, Michael Ketemer, and much more.

Bluegrass and folk duo from Calgary, Rye & Fairy Tales will appear live at The Garnet (231 Hunter St. W., Peterborough, 705-874-8463) on Friday, December 13th at 10 p.m.

Their songs “reflect years of broken hearts and broken strings, all the break ups and all the whiskey downed.”

They may be a new group to you, but you will certainly know them after a couple of whiskeys.

Peterborough alt-country duo Mayhemingways will be releasing their brand new EP (recorded by James McKenty) at the Historic Red Dog (189 Hunter St. W, Peterborough, 705-750-1710) on Thursday, December 19th at 8:30 p.m.

They are proud to have excellent guests on the bill. Tif Ginn plays in Fred Eaglesmith’s Traveling Show and will be starting the night with edgy and honest rock/country tunes. Brock Zeman comes back to town with his gift of songwriting and a band to back it all up.
