B.O.S.S. Young Professionals – March 20th

The Chamber’s B.O.S.S. (Business Owners Sharing Solutions) series continues in 2018 with the first seminar taking place on Tuesday, March 20th focusing on Young Professionals.

The panel of young professionals will feature Matt Logan of Logan Tree Experts. Recently celebrating their 10th anniversary, Matt founded Logan Tree Experts with his wife Tracy. The company began as a small operation and has grown into a full-service tree care company with two production crews and a tree health care division. Matt was the recipient of the Chamber’s Young Professional Award of Excellence in 2013.

This BOSS seminar is being held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 77, 10 Nicholls Street, Lakefield from 7:30-9:30 AM. A hot breakfast will be provided by Jack’s Family Restaurant. Cost to attend is $15 for members and $25 for future members.

Rural Women’s Summit in Buckhorn – March 2nd

Empowering Women & Girls in Peterborough-Kawartha

The first annual Rural Women’s Summit is taking place on Friday, March 2nd at the Buckhorn Community Centre from 2 to 8 p.m.

From 2 to 5 p.m., there will be an afternoon panel and participant dialogue, and from 5 to 8 p.m., the Honourable Maryam Monsef, MP Peterborough-Kawartha, will be the evening keynote speaker.

Networking and refreshments will be available throughout the day. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Draft revised Plan to Strengthen Rural and Northern Education and updates on PARG and CPPG

In June 2017, Ontario launched its Plan to Strengthen Rural and Northern Education in which the Ministry of Education committed to revising its Pupil Accommodation Review Guideline (PARG) and Community Planning and Partnerships Guideline (CPPG).

The amended PARG will be posted to the ministry’s website for six weeks, until March 23rd. After gathering further input, the final amended PARG will be released later in the spring.

All school boards and municipalities are encouraged to review the draft. Learn more.

Community Care is hosting February Frolic on Saturday, February 24th at the North Kawartha Community Centre, 340 McFadden Road in Apsley, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

The event features Montana Sky with special guests Tom ‘N’ Gary Duo, as well as a silent acution, a 50/50 draw, and food provided by Jen Shee.

Tickets are $20 and available at Community Care in Apsley, 168 Burleigh Street. This is an age of majority event.

Buckhorn Hydro Project Public Consultation Meeting

Peterborough Utilities Inc. is proposing the development of the Buckhorn Hydro Project between Buckhorn Lake and Lower Buckhorn Lake in the hamlet of Buckhorn.

A public consultation meeting will be held Tuesday, February 27th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Buckhorn Community Centre (1782 Lakehurst Rd., Buckhorn).

Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development Wins Award for Under Water Dining at Lock 21

Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development was recognized at the Economic Developers Council of Ontario’s Awards of Excellence. PKED was the winner of the 2017 Special Events Award for the newly developed experience, Under Water Dining at Lock 21.

The award comes as a result of Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism’s (a division of Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development, and the official destination marketing organization for the region) continued focus on the development of experiential travel opportunities that highlight the region’s strengths and tourism assets.

Thirteen Moons Hosting International Women’s Day

On Thursday, March 8th, Thirteen Moons Wellness will host the second annual International Women’s Day Conference at Ashburnham Reception Centre in Peterborough.

The 2018 International Women’s Day global theme is “Press for Progress.” The focus of the day is to provide an opportunity for women to engage in learning, share triumphs and struggles, and ultimately, empower each other so we can continue to thrive as we play important roles in our families, workplaces, and communities. The conference features three keynote speakers, a choice of two 75-minute workshops, lunch and snacks.
